Dr. Jumba wishes to see his experiments' success and, through them, achieve glorification from others. It is his desire to be regarded as the evil genius he believes himself to be. However, Dr. Jumba becomes livid when he or his experiments are called a failure. He would rather tinker with objects around him than become physically active, hence the large exterior.

In the 2002 Disney film ''{{w|Lilo & Stitch}}'', Dr. Jumba Jookiba is brought before the Grand Council on Planet Turo, accused of illegal genetic experimentation. The Council is then presented with Jumba's latest creation, Experiment 626. The Grand Councilwoman dubs the creature a monster, and Jumba is consequently placed under arrest by Captain Gantu. After 626 escapes exile and crash lands on Kaua'i, Hawaii, Jumba is sent to assist Agent Wendy Pleakley, the Council's Earth expert, in reclaiming his escaped experiment in exchange for his early release. The two fail to capture 626 as he (now going by Stitch) adapts to life in Hawaii with Lilo and Nani, leading the Councilwoman to fire them and send Gantu to capture Stitch instead. As Stitch escapes once again, he is finally caught by Jumba and Pleakley, but having learned of 'ohana (a Hawaiian term for extended family), he persuades the two to help him and Nani rescue Lilo, who had also been taken by Gantu along with Stitch. After boarding Jumba's ship and rescuing her, Jumba and Pleakley are left in Hawaii by the Councilwoman and join Lilo's 'ohana.
