It is similar to [[Counterattack]] from  ''[[Kingdom Hearts (game)|Kingdom Hearts]]''. Counterguard is meant to be used in conjunction with the [[Guard]] ability. After Sora guards and successfully blocks an attack, pressing {{button|x}} immediately afterwards will result in Sora counterattacking with a small burst of light, which can be followed by a regular attack of his own. It is learned by defeating [[Hades]] in ''Kingdom Hearts II'' or by defeating [[Cerberus]] in ''[[Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix]]''.
