Chapter 25: Let the Games Begin! The Hades Cup is the twenty-fifth chapter in the Kingdom Hearts II manga.

Story
Synopsis
Hades announces the Hades Cup, forcing Hercules to join by threatening Megara. Despite his exhaustion, Hercules is determined to save Megara, and he and Sora enter the tournament. Pete and Hades discuss Auron's obedience after his initial refusal, but Hades shows him Auron's Statue, and assures him he'll do what they ask. Sora, Donald, and Goofy watch how Auron takes down Cerberus, and compliment him on his strength. Watching Hercules take out the Rock Titan, Auron questions his task of defeating him when he's already weakened. Overhearing Auron saying he'll get to return to life by beating Hercules, Sora asks him about his death. Auron explains he failed to protect his friends, and Sora says he hopes he gets to see them again. At that moment, Sora's match begins, though he quickly loses against the Ice Titan.
Sora signs himself and Hercules for the new tournament. Despite his exhaustion, Hercules agrees to participate, determined to defeat Hades.

As the final match between Auron and Hercules begins, Pete notices Auron's Statue is missing. Megara approaches Sora and shows him the statue. Seeing how Hercules is struggling, Megara throws in the towel for him, despite Sora's protests. Annoyed by the unfinished match, Hades reclaims the statue and orders Auron to finish off Hercules. Pete tries to protest, saying he'll need Hercules alive to turn him into a Heartless, but Hades ignores him. Auron prepares to strike Hercules down, but Pete grabs the statue out of Hades's hand, and it breaks.
Above the Underdrome arena, Pete questions whether Auron will truly obey Hades, recalling the initial failure. Hades reveals a doll he created that binds Auron's free will, making him completely obedient to Hades.

Worlds and characters
Back at the tournament, Sora introduces himself to Auron, commenting on Auron's commendable strength. Elsewhere, Hercules successfully wins his matches, continuing to climb into the higher ranks. Auron comments on Hercules weakened state, thinking it is unfair to fight someone in such a state. Hades reminds Auron of the reward, should he defeat Hercules: freedom. Sora questions how someone so strong could have died, to which Auron reveals he died during a failed attempt to protect his friends. Sora meddles further, asking if Auron's friends are here in the Underworld. Auron says no, but refuses to continue the discussion. As Auron goes to leave, Sora wishes him good luck at finding his friends.

Story changes
During the next match, Sora loses to the Ice Titan. His defeat finalizes the roster for the last round: Hercules versus Auron. Above the arena, Pete discovers that the doll of Auron has gone missing. As the trio watches the match from the sidelines, Meg appears, revealing a doll in the likeness of Auron that she stole from Hades. Fearing Hercules will die, Meg forces him to withdraw from the match. Hades appears, claiming that the match must go on. He retrieves the stolen doll and orders Auron to finish off Hercules. Auron refuses, stating that the match is over. Forced against his will, Auron draws his sword, preparing to strike down Hercules and Meg. Just as he is about to strike, however, Pete accidentally breaks the doll.
*Sora, Donald, and Goofy meet Auron during the tournament, instead of when fleeing from Hades's chamber.
*Sora and Hercules enter the tournament separately, rather than teaming up.
*Sora is defeated in the tournament by the Ice Titan, instead of Hercules asking him to find Auron's Statue.
*Auron is stopped by Pete accidentally breaking the statue, instead of Sora returning to statue to Auron.
