Chaining is a game feature that is only available in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Chaining increases the amount of Heart Points collected, but only by a little. to start a chain, defeat an emblem Heartless. a yellow ring will appear around your target and the chain symbol appears just below your heart collection meter. the ring will shrink with time (hitting an emblem Heartless will give you more time and expand the ring). if you keep the chain going for a long time, the heart collection meter will flash blue, showing that your chain is maxed out. during this time, emblem heartless drop many more hearts than normal. any emblem heartless defeated when the chain is going will release extra hearts. bosses will drop a  vary large amount if defeated during a chain). chaining is also  a part of the training at Olympus Coliseum. smashing barrels into heartless to keep the chain going rewards you with more points and hearts during this mini-game.  the ability Chain Time (from the Eternal Ring) slows the chain ring's shrinking speed. the ability Chain Power causes you to deal extra damage during a maxed-out chain.
