It is one of two material types dropped only by [[Nobody|Nobodies]]; the other is [[Twilight (material)|Twilight]].  In addition, it is one of eight types of materials that can be bought in the [[Moogle]] synthesis shop.  In order to open this option, [[Sora]] must collect 30 Dense Shards, 25 Dense Stones, and 20 Dense Gems.  The Dense materials are colored gray to identify them among other synthesis materials.

In ''Kingdom Hearts II'', the [[moogle]] will reward [[Sora]] with a [[Serenity Gem]] once all Dense materials are obtained.
Dense materials are most notably used to create [[Save the Queen]] and [[Save the Queen+]], [[Donald Duck|Donald]]'s ultimate weapons.


==Design==
In the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts II, the Dense materials are known as "Interval" materials.
Betwixt materials are colored dark grey. A Betwixt Shard is a blocky, crescent-shaped jewel. A Betwixt Stone consists of three jewels, one shaped like an uneven cube and two with an oblong, pointy shape. A Betwixt Gem consists of four jewels, a large facet cut jewel, with two smaller facet cut jewels at the sides, and a small, diamond-shaped jewel at the bottom. A Betwixt Crystal consists of a large star-shaped jewel, with a smaller facet cut jewel at the bottom, and a diamond-shaped jewel on either side.


"Dense" may refer to the material's opaqueness. "Betwixt" refers to the essence of the in-between the material contains.
