The Aubade is a Keychain for Roxas's and Xion's Keyblades that appears in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Design
The main structure of the Aubade is a chokutō with a black handle, gold pommel, and gold rain guard; the blade's edge faces the Keyblade's teeth. The Keyblade's guard is split into an upper and lower half. Both halves are gold and lined with spikes, but the spikes are more prominent on the upper half. The teeth of the Keyblade are comprised by a gold semi-circle with a turquoise center that is lined by long, gold spikes; the teeth connect to the main blade by a Nobody symbol. The Keychain token is shaped like a diamond lined by short spikes. Its upper half is gold and its lower half is turquoise, and there is a large, X-shaped gap in the center of the token. The gold sections of the weapon resemble flashes of light, while the turquoise sections are reminiscent of green flashes.

An aubade is a song or poem evoking dawn which is traditionally a love song of two lovers parting in the morning. While not fully romantic in nature, the most defining aspects of Roxas's personality occur in Twilight Town: after leaving the Organization, he travels to Twilight Town; there, he encounters and is forced to defeat his close friend Xion, destroying her and giving up even his memories of her. This occurs shortly before Sora awakens from his year long slumber, referencing two lovers parting in the "morning".

The names of Roxas's weapons generally refer to either the pain of parting and loneliness, or light phenomena. The Aubade is the only weapon to reference both.

Gameplay
The ground combo of this Keyblade begins with a diagonal upward slash from the right leg, followed by a horizontal slash to the right, and ends with a rush forward and a spinning slash on the right side that launches enemies upward. The combo can be extended by tapping dsy which causes the player to jump into the air and perform a spinning slash. The aerial combo of this Keyblade starts with the same slash as the ground combo, followed by a rush forward, a lean to the right with a spinning slash, and ends with the same spinning slash except leaning on the left side that launches enemies downward. The Aubade's swing speed is much faster than that of Roxas's other Keyblades.

The is a form of the Kingdom Key that appears in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It is one of two unique weapons that Roxas and Xion can wield.

The Kingdom Key is changed into the Aubade when the Mystery Gear is equipped.

An aubade is traditionaly a poem or song about two lovers seperating at dawn. This metaphor could be applied to several of Roxas' (platonic) relationships:
*Roxas recieves his name from Xemnas in Twilight Town, almost completely seperating himself from Sora as he gains his own identity.
*When he escapes from The World That Never Was, he travels to Twilight Town, severing his ties with Organization XIII, but more importantly Axel.
*In his last confrontation with Xion at the clock tower in Twilght Town, Roxas defeats her. Although confronted, this is still the only time where Roxas has a direct effect in seperating from someone he still cared for and who cared for him as well.
*Roxas' residence during Sora's final stages of memory recovery is a simulated Twilight Town, where he stayed until he was fully assimilated into Sora, ultimately ending all relationships Roxas had formed beforehand.

It should be noted that dawn leads to twilight, where as the weapon Aubade can, where available, lead to Twilght Town, where these events take place.

Trivia
The original Japanese name, Aubade Lord insinuates that Roxas is the "Lord" of aubades.

It is safe to assume that the metaphors do not apply to Xion, seeing as how she was merely a copy of Roxas.

Most of Roxas' weapon names refer to guilt/pain or the night; Aubade is the only to do both at once.
