   As of right now, there have been three different types of Kingdom Hearts shown in the series. It has been confirmed by by both Xehanort's Reports and the Glossary from Dream Drop Distance that the Kingdom Hearts' we see in Kingdom hearts 1 & 2 are artificial, that is to say, they were man-made, specifically by Xehanort's Heartless and Nobody. In Kingdom Hearts 1, Xehanort's Heartless "Ansem" was gathering world hearts together to complete his Kingdom Hearts and call forth a great darkness from it. This Kingdom hearts had a door that led to the Realm of Darkness, and was closed by Sors, Riku, and King Mickey. In Kingdom Hearts 2, Xehanort's Nobody Xemnas was collecting human hearts to complete his own Kingdom Hearts in order to infuse his heart (Xehanort's heart) into 13 vessels from the Organization in order to have 13 darknesses. Xemnas decieved most of the Organization into helping with this under the lie they had no hearts and that by uniting with a Kingdom Hearts made from human hearts, they could become whole again. This Kingdom hearts was destroyed by the real Ansem the Wise's machine and the captive hearts were set free. In Birth by Sleep, we see a glimpse of the "One True Kingdom Hearts" mentioned in both Xehanort's Report and by Yensid and Master Xehanort himself in Dream Drop Distance. According to Xehanort, this Kingdom Hearts, much like the one in the first game, is made from world hearts, however, the true Kingdom Hearts is made from a complete and perfect union of every single world heart in existence. It is this Kingdom Hearts that shares its existence with the X-blade, and the same Kingdom Hearts that was fought over in the Keyblade War. Because it shares its existence with the X-blade, it will appear when the X-blade is forged. According to Yensid and Xehanort. it is the source of all true light and was swallowed by the darkness when the X-blade was shattered in the Keyblade War.
