Vanitas begins to once more seek out Ventus's heart to merge back into one being, but with him in control. At some point, Vanitas encountered the monster [[Randall]] and manipulated his desire for revenge, ~~aided~~ him in returning to [[Monstropolis]] by repairing the doorway he had been banished through ~~so that he could harness~~ the technology of Monsters Inc. to collect negative energy.

While Randall uses the Heartless and Unversed to take over the factory, Vanitas uses the door system to collect screams; the negativity helping rebuild his damaged heart. To aid Randall, Vanitas gathered canisters of scream energy, turning them into the [[Lump of Horror]] Unversed. However, it wouldn't activate at first; Vanitas having been too weak at the time of creation.
