Rex first appeared in Pixar's first feature film ''{{w|Toy Story}}'' in 1995, voiced by [[wikipedia:Wallace Shawn|Wallace Shawn]]. In the film, he is depicted as rather close to Woody and chooses not to take sides in the ensuing conflict between Woody and Buzz, especially when Woody accidentally knocks Buzz out of the window. In the second film, he is among the toys who embark on a journey to rescue Woody after he is stolen by a toy collector, Al McWhiggin. In the third, he and the other toys are sent to Sunnyside Daycare after Andy grows up, only to discover it is actually a prison run by the ruthless Lots'o Huggin' Bear (Lotso). Rex eventually escapes with his friends and they return to Andy's house, who donates them to a little girl, Bonnie, who treats them as Andy once did. He will return in ''Toy Story 4''.
